Shorthorn’s Shine In 2009
Canadian Junior Shorthorn Show July 24-26, West Brome, Quebec
On Wednesday July 22nd and Thursday July 23rd two convoys of trailers and trucks traveled to Quebec carrying close to 40 cattle and plenty of excited competitors.
The 2009 Canadian Junior Shorthorn Show was hosted by the Quebec Junior and Senior Shorthorn Associations. They welcomed 47 competitors with 31 of those kids from Ontario. Other provinces represented included Quebec, Saskatchewan and Alberta.
The event was held at the West Brome Fairgrounds which provided very nice open facilities with plenty of space and comfort for the 60 head of cattle competing in the weekends events. The fairgrounds also provided an indoor ring with stands for parents and spectators.
On the Friday evening the Juniors enjoyed a great barbecue hosted by and courtesy of Shadybrook Farm. Mr. Pathy owner of Shadybrook Farm was happy to flip burgers and show us around the picturesque rolling landscape and award winning herd of purebred Shorthorns.
Morning Events Included: A Shorthorn Quiz, Team Salesmanship and Speech Contests.
Afternoon Events Included: A Clipping and Fitting Demonstration by Judge Jeff Sargent, Team Fitting Competition and a Judging Contest.
Saturday Evening: After The Days Events Competitors and their Parents enjoyed a Banquet including a Full Meal, Speeches, and Auction. All the Junior Competitors were given a Shorthorn Shine in 2009 Sweater and Duffel Bag.
Sunday: The Conformation Show that morning. The Showmanship took place in the afternoon.
Jeff Sargent was the Judge for the Conformation and Showmanship. Mr. Sargent is the Show and Sale Cattle Manager for WHR Shorthorns In Van Alstyne, Texas.

Results
The Reserve Aggregate Champion of the show was Patrick Brown-Andison. The Grand Aggregate Champion of the show was John Mason. Full results can be found on the Canadian Shorthorn website at www.canadianshorthorns.com
This was an extremely successful year for the Ontario Junior Shorthorn Association with many excellent results by Juniors in both showmanship and conformation. All of Ontario’s Juniors worked really well together strengthening friendships that I am sure will last a lifetime!
