A good crowd attended the OSA’s bull test open house and private treaty sale on March 27th, 2010. Many thanks to those who participated by placing their bulls on test and to those who attended the open house and purchased bulls. Four of the eleven bulls sold at the open house or shortly afterwards. The chart below outlines the final data gathered on each of the bulls at the end of the test period. The OSA has plans to have another test this fall. Special thanks to Jim Muir for hosting the test station and for taking good care of the bulls. The Fall Classic Sale was held on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the Orangeville Fairgrounds. There were 38 lots catalogued (36 live) with 34 lots selling. Total sales were $39,550, with 34 live lots averaging $1,257. The high selling lot was a Shorthorn Plus heifer calf consigned by RK Cattle Co. and sold to Joey Parkinson for $3,550. The high selling bred heifer was consigned by Carman & Jennifer Kyle and sold to George Kyle for $1,700.
The Royal Sale was held at the Royal Winter Fair on November 6, 2009. There were 17 live lots sold, which grossed $79,400 and averaged $4670; Embryo lots averaged $2325. The high selling lot was a 2-year old bull, Highridge Sundown, consigned by Highridge Shorthorns of Quebec, which sold for $10,000. The high selling female was JWM Stardust 1W, Consigned by JWM Shorthorns, which sold to Lauren Enright for $9,500.
The RAWF show boasted 86 females and 24 bulls exhibited from 4 different provinces. Montie Soules from Oklahoma was the judge. There were many new exhibitors, which was great to see and the stands were full with spectators. Many thanks to all who assisted with making the show a success!
Grand Champion Female was exhibited by Shadybrook Farm, West Brome, QC.
Reserve Champion Female was exhibited by RK Cattle Co., Moorefield, ON
Champion Bull was exhibited by Crawfdown Farms, Glencoe, ON
Reserve Champion Bull was exhibited by High Ridge Farm, Kingsbury, QC.
The Junior Shorthorn show was very well received with about 40 juniors participating.

There were 382 entries at the show in 2009 (versus 337 in 2008). The overall sponsor for the show was Kubota Canada. In the Shorthorn calf class, there were 5 entries and in the yearling class there were 20 entries. The Champion Shorthorn was Millbrook Candy 1U, exhibited by Lauren Enright of Renfrew, ON. The Reserve Champion Shorthorn was KRCC Roxie 2U exhibited by Brigitte Herrema of Uxbridge, ON. The overall champion was a Commercial heifer exhibited by Brooke Earley, and Reserve Champion was a Charolais heifer exhibited by Erin Briggs.
In the showmanship competition, Robert Enright was Grand Champion and Justin Lasby was Reserve Champion. Junior Shorthorn member Daniel Leahy was the Junior Champion Showman.
