Rules:

1. Entry Deadline Friday, July 3th, 2026

2. Entry forms and entry fee:

  • $85 (HST Included) Exhibitor Entry Fee includes up to 2 animals per junior; additional entries beyond 2 animals there is $15 fee per each extra animal entered by a Junior. NOTE: there may be more than ONE animal entered in each Conformation Class.

3. Substitute/Late entries will be accepted; Deadline, July 22, 2026, Late entry fee $125 (HST Included) 

4. Arrival: Friday, August 14th; Departure: afternoon Sunday, August 16th 

5. All Junior exhibitors must be registered 2026 CJSA members.

6. Bedding: Straw only (NOT shavings) may be brought in by exhibitors on the condition that the straw is scooped off the bark and put into the manure bin provided before departure.

7. Extra meals may be ordered during the registration. 

  • Banquet Tickets may be purchased for $40 (HST included) (age 6 and under are complimentary.) Must be purchased in advance. 
  • Friday Dinner (Chili dog meal), Saturday Breakfast (Bagels, Muffins, Juice), Lunch (Hamburger Meal), Sunday Breakfast (Breakfast sandwich meal) may be purchased in advance for $10/meal (HST included). All registered juniors will receive meal tickets for the meals listed above. All others must purchase meal tickets in advance to help ensure meals are available. 
  •  The deadline to purchase meals is: July 3, 2026. 

8. All animals including Shorthorn Plus must be CSA registered and be tattooed and CCIA tagged and may be subject to verification on site.

  • It is not a requirement that animals exhibited by a Junior be owned by that Junior or his/her family.
  • All Purebred Shorthorn female animals must be a minimum 87.5% purity
  • All Purebred Shorthorn male animals must be a minimum 93.8% purity
  • All Shorthorn Plus animals must be between 50 and 87.49% pure for females and between 50 and 93.7% pure for males
  • All Purebred Shorthorn animals must be an accepted Shorthorn colour;  Shorthorn Plus animals may be any colour.

9. Adult and non-Junior participation in grooming, clipping, fitting and general show readiness is HIGHLY DISCOURAGED. A buddy system and other Junior assistance is expected.

**NOTE: “Let’s see how our Juniors can compete without Expert help”

**NOTE:  Peewees and ‘novice’ Juniors are an exception and may receive help in and outside the ring from parents and non-Juniors.

10. Alcohol and drugs are strictly forbidden everywhere and at all times.

11. Tampering with Livestock: The unethical fitting of livestock entered for competition is prohibited. Unethical fitting is deemed to consist of any treatment or operation materially altering the structure or natural conformation of any part of an animal’s body including but not limited to: the introduction of air, liquids, or other substances subcutaneously in any part of the body; pumping, drenching or force filling; surgical operation to correct defects; or the performance of any act, operation to exaggerate the natural conformation of the animal. All or any of: Require immediate removal of animals, prohibit participation, loss of award/prizes and ban from participating in future.

12. Generators will be needed to supplement hydro availability. Please bring one if you are able.

13. Garbage must be kept separate from straw bedding/manure. PLEASE use bins and receptacles provided.

NOTE: removal of straw bedding/manure that has been contaminated with garbage will result in very expensive dump fees and incur much higher future show costs.

SHOWMANSHIP CLASSES:   

 Age Categories for Showmanship:

  1. Peewees  –  age 8 or under as of January 1, 2026
  2. Juniors  –  age 9 – 12 as of January 1, 2026
  3. Intermediates  –  age 13 -15 as of January 1, 2026
  4. Seniors  –  age 16 – 21 as of January 1, 2026

Champion and Reserve Champion will be chosen for each Class

 OVERALL SHOWMANSHIP AWARDS (Grand and Reserve Grand Champion) will be presented to the winner of a final round consisting of the Champions and Reserve Champions of all age groups.

  • SHORTHORN PLUS DIVISION
  1.  Shorthorn Plus Heifer Calf (born on or after January 1, 2026 and a minimum of 3 months of age)
  2.  Shorthorn Plus Yearling Heifer (born between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2025
  3. Shorthorn Plus Bull Calf (born on or after January 1, 2026 and a minimum of 3 month of age)     

GRAND & RESERVE GRAND CHAMPION SHORTHORN PLUS

 

PUREBRED SHORTHORN DIVISION                                      

1. Junior Heifer Calf (born on or after March 1, 2026 and a minimum of 3 months of age)

2. Senior Heifer Calf (born between January 1, 2026 and February 28, 2026)

3. Junior Yearling Heifer (born on or after March 1, 2025)

4. Senior Yearling Heifer (born between January 1, 2025 and February 28, 2025)

5. Cow/Calf Pair (All ages; Female with her own natural purebred and tattooed 2026 calf at side)

GRAND & RESERVE GRAND CHAMPION PUREBRED FEMALE

6. Junior Bull Calf (born on or after March 1, 2026 and a minimum of 3 months of age)

7. Senior Bull Calf (born between January 1, 2026 and February 28, 2026)

GPS (Geno, Pheno Show) (EPD Class):

  1. All Purebred heifer calves and Purebred yearling heifers will be automatically registered, unless you select to not participate in this class. Banners will be awarded to the Champion Heifer Calf and Champion Yearling Heifer. 
  2. All animals must be registered as Purebred Shorthorn in the registry of the Canadian Shorthorn Association (CSA) registry at the time of the show. (93.8% purity and higher.) 
  3. Genotypic and phenotypic attributes will be evaluated as separate components in this show. Both genotypic and phenotypic components will have equal parts in the overall tabulation (50% genotypic / 50% phenotypic). 
  4. Genotypic scoring (based on EPD’s) will take place prior to show in the phenotypic portion. Genotypic results will not be shared until after the phenotypic portion of the judging has been completed. 
  5. Genotypic scores will be calculated using equal weighting of each of the following 13 EPDs: CED, BW, WW, YW, Milk, TM, CEM, STAY, YG, CW, CREA, MARB and CFAT.
